Who we are
This website belongs to M.Bateman & Son Painting and Decorating Ltd, 2 Queens Road, Petersfield, Hampshire GU32 3BD. We are the data controller for the information described below. For anything on this page, email info@mbatemanandson.co.uk or call 07887 830195.
What we collect, and when
We only collect personal information when you choose to send it. There is no account to create and nothing to sign up to.
If you fill in the enquiry form, we receive whatever you put in it:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number, if you give one
- Your town or postcode, and what the job involves
- Anything you write in the message box
Alongside that, our server records the date and time and the IP address the form was sent from. That is a standard security measure: it lets us spot automated abuse of the form.
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how you moved through the site, roughly where in the country you are, and what kind of device you used. None of it identifies you by name, and we never try to work out who an individual visitor is.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
Enquiry details are used for one thing: to reply to you, quote for the work and, if you go ahead, carry the job out. We do not sell them, we do not share them with other trades, and we do not add you to a mailing list.
The lawful basis is legitimate interests. You have asked us to quote for work, so answering you is what you would reasonably expect. Where analytics is concerned, the basis is your consent, which is why nothing loads until you press Accept.
How long we keep it
Enquiry records are deleted after 6 months. If you become a customer, we keep the job paperwork for as long as we have to for accounting and guarantee purposes, which is normally six years. Google Analytics data is held for 14 months and then removed automatically.
You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner. Email us and we will do it, usually the same day.
Who else can see it
Very few people. Enquiries arrive in an email inbox and are read by Thomas and Mark. Beyond that:
- Our hosting and email provider stores the site and the inbox on its servers, in the UK or the EU.
- Google Analytics, if you accepted it, processes usage data on Google's servers. IP addresses are shortened before Google stores them.
- Google Fonts serves the two typefaces this site uses. Loading a font means your browser contacts Google, which sees your IP address. No cookies are set and nothing is stored on your device.
Cookies and similar storage
Nothing that tracks you is stored until you say yes. When you first arrive you will see a short bar at the bottom of the screen offering Accept or Reject, and the site works identically whichever you choose.
| Name | Set by | What it does | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells Google Analytics one visitor apart from another. Set only if you press Accept. | 2 years |
| _ga_QDS31ZPC2E | Google Analytics | Keeps track of a single visit to the site. Set only if you press Accept. | 2 years |
| mbs_consent | This website | Remembers whether you pressed Accept or Reject, so you are not asked again. Stored in your browser, not a cookie, and never sent anywhere. | Until you clear your browser data |
Changed your mind? . You can also clear cookies in your own browser settings at any time.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also object to us holding it at all. There is no charge, and we will respond within one month.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
Changes to this policy
If we start using something new, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, the cookie bar will reappear so you can make a fresh choice.
